Enhanced Version PRUmy Child

PETALING JAYA (July 24, 2013): Prudential Assurance Malaysia Bhd (PAMB) has rolled out an enhanced version of its child insurance plan, PRUmy child, to cover neonatal jaundice requiring phototherapy treatment.

Statistic shows that jaundice affects 75% of newborns in Malaysia, out of which 20% will need to undergo phototherapy treatment, said the insurer.

PRUmy child, which was best known for pioneering prenatal coverage in 2010, now also covers an infant's admission to the intensive care unit or high dependency unit for any complications occurring within a year from birth, while extending its list of covered congenital conditions to 15 types.
"From the feedback we received, we found that there is a need to extend the coverage to include more common conditions or complications among newborns as most of these conditions will have a severe and life-long impact on the infants and will require extensive care and medical intervention," said PAMB chief marketing officer Fiona Liao in a statement today. "Hence it is crucial to have a plan that will help parents to cope with such situations."

Under the plan, parents have the flexibility to select the type of coverage they require for their child.

"They can start to build their child's education fund even before they are born by attaching PRUedusaver or PRUsaver kid and reap the potential of higher returns through PAMB's series of PRUlink or PRUlink education funds," said Liao.

A loyalty bonus feature has also been built into the enhanced plan where customers who consistently pay their premiums on a timely basis will be rewarded with a bonus credited into their policy upon completion of the 10th policy year and every three years thereafter.
PRUmy child can be purchased as early as 18 weeks into one's pregnancy, or for a child who is between one and 18 years on his and her next birthday.

PAMB has also embarked on an integrated marketing campaign to promote the enhanced plan, which runs until the end of October across multiple media channels.
